How to add a sell tax to your token on Uniswap
7 November 2026
A sell tax takes a small part of every sell in your token's pool. It is a common way to fund a project, reward liquidity providers or discourage quick flips. On Uniswap you can do it with a hook instead of building it into the token itself.
Why use a hook instead of a taxed token
- Your token stays a normal token. Wallets, bridges and other apps handle it like any other ERC-20.
- The tax is public and fixed. It's set when the pool is created and can't be raised later, which buyers like to see.
- No code to write. The rule is ready-made and tested.
Step by step
- Open Create a hook and tick Sell tax.
- Set the percentage taken on every sell (up to 10%).
- Choose where it goes: your treasury wallet, or the pool's liquidity providers.
- Paste your token's address, pick what to pair it with (for example ETH or USDC) and set the starting price.
- Sign one transaction. The pool is created on Uniswap with the tax built in, then add liquidity from the link we show you.
You can combine it with other rules, such as a Treasury fee on buys, an Auto-burn, or an Exit clock that charges more on quick sells and nothing after a set time.
Good to know
- Rules are permanent. There is no admin who can change them, including you, so pick numbers you're happy with.
- UniHooks takes 0.10% of each swap in pools created this way. Creating the pool is free apart from gas.
- The hook contract has not had an outside audit yet. Read the notice on the Create page before you launch.
